The Safer Parking Scheme is managed by the BPA on behalf of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives Ltd, a subsidiary of the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).

A Park Mark® is awarded to parking facilities that have met the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the Police. These requirements mean the parking operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking facility.

Parking facility owners/operators that join the scheme are from a variety of commercial and public sectors. A whole range of parking facilities are covered by the scheme which is also open to those organisations or individuals who do not operate or own a car park but wish to demonstrate affiliation to the scheme as part of their interest in the reduction of crime and the fear of crime in society.

Park Access is jointly owned by the BPA and Disabled Motoring UK and will be managed and administered by the BPA.

Park Access incorporates two existing schemes - The Disabled Parking Accreditation (DPA) and People's Parking – which are ending. Whilst both the DPA and People's Parking measured similar criteria as part of their assessment of a parking facility's accessibility, Park Access takes these standards and raises them still further to automatically become the UK's industry benchmark for accessible and inclusive parking and electric vehicle charging facilities.
